Katy Perry Says Daughter Daisy Is Watching the 2024 MTV VMAs for the First Time

Katy Perry, who won the Video Vanguard award at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, has the support of her biggest fans.

On Wednesday, September 11, the pop star walked the red carpet at New York’s UBS Arena with her fiancé Orlando Bloom before accepting the coveted award.

In an interview for the show, the 39-year-old “Roar” singer said her daughter Daisy Dove, 4, was supportive and watched MTV “for the first time.”

“Don’t say you have to be up too late, honey. Eat your broccoli,” she said.

“I feel good. I had my daughter and it’s changed my whole life,” she added later. “I feel whole and more grounded. I write songs from a place where I feel really empowered. I feel really connected to my divine feminine. It’s changed my life for the better.”

The awards show marks Perry’s return to the MTV stage for the first time in seven years. On Wednesday, she will perform a medley of her greatest hits.

Perry also joins icons who have won the Vanguard Award, named after Michael Jackson, including Shakira, Madonna, Beyoncé, The Beatles, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson and many more.

“Katy is a musical giant and a true pop culture icon,” said Bruce Gillmer, Paramount’s president of music, musical talent, programming and events and chief content officer for music at Paramount+, in a statement.

He added: “With her groundbreaking creative vision, she has become a global phenomenon, conquering the world’s biggest stages. Katy’s prowess will be on full display LIVE at the VMAs with an unmissable, career-spanning performance celebrating her greatest moments and chart-topping hits.”

Earlier this month, Perry showed his support for Bloom, 47, at the premiere of his new film The cut.

After the premiere, the actor told PEOPLE that Perry “just completely freaked out” when she saw the film.

“She looked at it and thought, ‘I need a stiff drink,'” he said, adding later that she cried. “She was really moved. She knew what it cost.”

The 2024 MTV VMAs air September 11 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT, live from UBS Arena in New York City.
