Sega has announced that the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack will be coming to Sonic x Shadow Generations as DLC ahead of the film’s release.

And yes, Keanu Reeves plays the voice of Shadow.

The DLC is inspired by scenes from the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie and arrives ahead of its December 12 release.

The news was shared during PlayStation State of Play tonight with a glimpse of the DLC’s gameplay. Shadow has a furry design similar to that of the film and races through Tokyo, as seen in the film’s latest trailer.

“This title is designed to please not only fans of Sonic games, but also those who see the Sonic movie and become fans of Sonic and Shadow for the first time,” said series producer Shun Nakamura on the PlayStation Blog.

“But of course we didn’t expect Shadow from the movie to be included in this game, because the world for the movie and the game are different – ​​we thought it would be a challenge to do that.

“However, we saw an almost festival-like opportunity where we launched the film and the game almost at the same time. We decided to pursue that and work on film-related content, development of which began last fall.”

The goal is for fans to watch the film and then relive it as part of Sonic x Shadow Generations. The DLC will not have a strict story directly related to the film, but will be inspired by the Tokyo setting.

About recording Reeves, Nakamura said: “It was an incredibly secretive process, so when we started implementing the voice into the game, we weren’t told who this voice is. The voice recording was handled by Iizuka-san in the game. USA, so when we received the recorded voice files, we listened to them and felt: is this that actor…?, so we were also surprised after the official announcement from Paramount!”

The Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack is included in the digital deluxe edition of the game. The film will be released on December 21.
