Knicks are having a hard time defensively

New York has dropped three of its last four games. The Knicks couldn’t stop the Pacers on Sunday in Indiana, allowing 132 points on 51 percent shooting. Indy went 21-for-46 (45.7%) from three-point range and 21-for-25 (84.0%) from the charity stripe. The Knicks shot 55 percent overall, but went 7-for-25 (28.0%) from deep and committed 14 turnovers.

“They are a great attacking team. And we gave up way too much,” said NY coach Tom Thibodeau. “We’re not challenging shots, they’re going to make them. The difference with the three-point line is therefore too great. They scored 21, we scored seven.” That’s a problem. Our offense, we score 121 points, we shoot 55 (percent). We got past the line a lot.

While New York isn’t the only Eastern Conference team currently struggling, it was a disappointing start for a team that won 50 games last season and went all-in this offseason to advance in the playoffs with the addition by Karl-Anthony Towns. and Miklas bridges.

Unfortunately, the roster moves have affected the Knicks’ playing style, as they have struggled to get offensive rebounds (24th) and have regressed defensively (26th in opponent eFG), especially around the rim (29th in opponent eFG). opponent).

New York Knicks injury report: C Mitchell Robinson (ankle) and PF Precious Achiuwa (hamstring) are out. PG Cameron Payne (hamstring) is questionable to play in Tuesday’s NBA In-Season Tournament game against Philadelphia.

Philadelphia is winless in the regular season this season

Philadelphia snapped a five-game losing streak against Charlotte on Sunday as rookie guard Jared McCain had a career-high 27 points, including 23 in the second half and overtime. Forward Guerschon Yabusele also added a career-high 20 points for the 76ers, who have yet to win a game in regulation. Philly shot 46 percent from the floor and held Charlotte to 37 percent, but both teams shot under 30 percent from beyond the arc. The Sixers made fourteen of their fifteen three-point attempts in the first half, helping the Hornets hold on.

“He’s an incredible kid. He has no fear,” Yabusele noted of McCain.

The Duke product suited up Sunday against a Sixers team lacking scoring options. Paul George returned to action a few games ago after missing the start of the season, Joel Embiid has yet to feature and Tyrese Maxey recently went down with a hamstring injury. That’s the trio that Philadelphia has leaned most of its offense and play on, resulting in a poor start to the season.

The 76ers rank 19th in NET rating, including 17th in offensive rating and 13th in defensive rating, according to Dunks and Threes. They rank 27th in eFG%, having wrestled around the basket (30th in rim FG%) and from long range (24th in 3PT%), making most of their shots from mid-range. On the defensive side, Philly ranks 29th in opponent eFG% as their opponents shoot 66.9 percent at the rim (26th) and 37.8 percent from the rim (28th).

Philadelphia 76ers injury report: PG Tyrese Maxey (hamstring) and C Joel Embiid (knee) are out for Tuesday’s NBA In-Season Tournament game against the Knicks.

Betting Trends: The Knicks have reached the moneyline in 56 of their last 94 games (+10.65 units/5% ROI).

I’m siding with New York in Tuesday’s In-Season Tournament game in Philadelphia. Offensively, the Knicks should attack the 76ers at the rim and from beyond the arc. NY is shooting just under 40 percent from long range (3rd) and should have plenty of success in the paint against Philadelphia’s inadequate interior defense. On the defensive side, the Knicks have enough stoppers to hold off a Sixers team missing their two top scorers from last season. Philly hasn’t shot the three-ball consistently enough to take advantage of New York’s below-average perimeter defense.

Total choice for the entire game

Judgement:

Knicks vs. 76ers prediction: The under will cash out at a total of 216.5 points.

I appreciate an underside bet in Tuesday’s New York-Philadelphia Atlantic Division rivalry game. These are two of the slowest teams in the NBA, as the Knicks average the fewest possessions (96.0) per game, and the Sixers average the fifth fewest (97.5). Neither team comes into this game with much momentum either. The Knicks can get hot from beyond the arc but rank 14th despite their high shooting percentage from downtown. It will take a strong defensive effort from Philadelphia to keep this game close, which should lead to a tightly contested matchup.

Prediction: Below 216.5
