Things get sexual on Soul Train Night

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Dancing with the stars season 33, episode 3, “Soul Train Night.”

Beep beep! Everyone aboard the soul train. The Dancing with the stars so soul train.

The first of a special two-night show saw stars perform a soulful set of songs inspired by the hit TV show Soul Train. Monday’s episode, which was pre-taped last week, kicked off with an action-packed routine from the pros and a quick explanation of the history behind the iconic show. Actress Rosie Perez, who got her start Soul Train In the 1980s she joined the jury, ready to put her expertise in R&B and hip-hop dance to good use.

One of the highlights of the evening was Oscar-nominated actor Eric Roberts dedicating his romantic foxtrot to his wife of 32 years, Eliza Roberts. He gushed about her love for DWTS and brought her into the dance itself at the end of the routine with a dip and a kiss. While waiting for their scores, his professional partner Britt revealed that Eric gave her some marriage advice that was NSFD (Not Safe for Disney).

Speaking of Not Safe for Disney, the couple that polarized the world DWTS fandom, model Brooks Nader and pro partner Gleb, danced a sensual rumba to Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing.” The (possibly real?) couple’s dance made Derek Hough exclaim, “That dance made me pregnant,” and Bruno Tonioli quickly confirmed that he is not the father. Despite the steam, their scores were on the low side and they finished with a 28. In an intriguing turn of events, Bachelor party star Jenn Tran and pro Sasha threw their own hats into the ring for Best Showmance, when Bruno commented that their Viennese Waltz was possibly the sexiest he’d ever seen.

Former NBA star Dwight Howard has had the charisma to win over the judges and viewers in recent weeks, but tonight that just wasn’t enough. Howard and pro Daniella admitted in their package that they didn’t have much time to practice their routine this week due to traveling, and when it came time to perform, it showed. Howard danced with little attention to footwork, but a lot of attention to facial expressions and his wig, and the judges noticed this (with Carrie Ann being booed by the audience) and gave them a 23 out of 40.

The surprising superstar of the season, Bachelor star Joey Graziadei showed off his backflip and musicality with his lively jive on “Shout,” which earned him the first nines of the season. “Your sex appeal is off the charts!” Perez said. The couple finished in second place on the leaderboard, just behind leader Chandler Kinney, who took first for the third week in a row with four nines.

And guess who’s back, back again? It’s the DWTS Live tour! Emma Slater, Alan Bersten, Brandon Armstrong, Britt Stewart, Daniella Karagach, Gleb Savchenko, Pasha Pashkov and Rylee Arnold will hit the road starting in January with routines from returning choreographer Mandy Moore and along with some top-secret celebrity guest stars.
