Fourth-liners Tye Kartye and Brandon Tanev sparked a comeback as the Seattle Kraken rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2 on Tuesday night.

Kartye, Tanev, Eeli Tolvanen and Will Borgen scored goals in the second period and Jared McCann added a late empty-netter as the Kraken improved to 2-0-0 on their six-game homestand. Jordan Eberle recorded two assists and McCann also finished with two points.

Seattle goalie Joey Daccord made 38 saves.

Sean Kuraly and Zach Aston-Reese each had a goal and an assist for the Blue Jackets, whose losing streak was six games (0-5-1). Kevin Labanc assisted on both games and Elvis Merzlikins stopped 28 of 32 shots.

The Kraken outscored Columbus 20-8 in the second period as they took control.

Kartye got the Kraken on the board at 2:50 of the period, taking a pass from Andre Burakovsky with his back to the net at the top of the crease and putting a spinning backhander between Merzlikins’ pads.

Tanev tied the score at 7:13 after a two-on-one rush with Yanni Gourde. Tanev raced down the right wing, cut laterally through the slot and beat Merzlikins with a wrist shot.

The Kraken took the lead just 10 seconds later on Tolvanen’s power-play goal, after Labanc was sent to the penalty area for trespassing.

Seattle’s Jared McCann won a faceoff in the offensive zone and got the puck to Eberle along the goal line on the left wing. Eberle fired a pass across the top of the crease and Tolvanen tapped it in close to the far post. The assist gave McCann 200 career points with the Kraken, making him the first to reach that mark with the franchise.

Borgen, a defender, made it 4-2 at 13:34, converting a wrist shot from the high slot after a strange rush for his first goal of the season.

The Blue Jackets outscored Seattle 18-6 in the first period while taking a 2-0 lead.

Columbus opened the scoring at 13:46 of the period when Aston-Reese’s shot from the top of the left faceoff circle deflected off Eberle’s stick and struck Kuraly, stationed at the top of the crease, in the back of the left leg. The puck fell into the blue paint and Kuraly tapped it in before Daccord could locate it.

Just 22 seconds later, the Blue Jackets doubled their lead. Kuraly went into the right corner and was hit by defender Joshua Mahura. Falling to ice, Kuraly swung the puck toward the net, and Aston-Reese aimed it over Daccord’s left shoulder.
