The Dallas Cowboys continue a tough season for the American team as they enter halftime trailing the Houston Texans 17-10.

After another tough loss at the hands of NFC East foe Philadelphia Eagles, the Cowboys welcomed the in-state opponent in a Monday night game in Week 11 and battled for two quarters, but much of what has plagued Dallas on defense and offense until this point was continued on Monday evening.

The Cowboys offense came alive with a 64-yard touchdown reception by wide receiver KaVontae Turpin. Beyond that, however, the Cowboys offense struggled to find momentum on the ground, allowing a total of 33 yards while quarterback Cooper Rush finished 15-for-27 with 172 yards and one touchdown.

They have struggled to stop the run or find durability on offense, especially in the run game.

Houston was led by running back Joe Mixon, who had his way against the Cowboys’ defense, finishing with 71 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns in the first half. Quarterback C.J. Stroud finished with 159 passing yards and orchestrated three scoring drives as Dallas’ defensive struggles continued.

Dallas has lost four games in a row and once again faces a halftime deficit that they will have to overcome if they want to avoid their fifth consecutive loss of the season.

Cowboys vs. Texans updates

It wasn’t clean defensively for Dallas and they had trouble finding consistency on offense, but they battled in the first half. An eight-play, 35-yard drive stalled at midfield before kicker Brandon Aubrey made a 53-yard field goal to cut the Texans’ lead to 17-10.

After giving up the rushing touchdown, the Texans respond with a field goal to push their lead back to double digits. Kicker Kai’mi Fairbairn smashes through a 33-yard effort to give them the 17-7 lead.

Just when things were looking bleak for Dallas, the Cowboys offense struck back with a 64-yard touchdown pass from Cooper Rush to KaVontae Turpin to cut the deficit to 14-7.

Joe Mixon was early when the Texans running back got his second touchdown of the opening quarter. This time it was a 10-play, 63-yard possession, capped by a one-yard Mixon touchdown run, that gave Houston the 14-0 lead.

The Cowboys’ defensive struggles continue as the Texans score with relative ease on the game’s opening possession. The six-play, 77-yard drive was capped by a 45-yard touchdown run by Joe Mixon.

Cowboys vs Texans predictions

ESPN: Only Dan Graziano was brave enough to pick the Cowboys on Monday night, while the rest of the ESPN NFL pundits took the Texans.

CBS Sports: There was a little more optimism about Dallas’ chances at CBS Sports, but the majority is still rolling on the Texans on Monday night.

Tony Catalina, Austin American statesman: The Dallas Cowboys are going nowhere fast this season, and it’s been tough to watch. There isn’t a single game for the rest of the year, people should feel comfortable picking them, and if they’re up against a good Texans team, things could get ugly. Texans 31, Cowboys 13.

Cedric Golden, Austin American statesman: While Houston regains its position in the AFC South, Dallas continues its downward spiral. Texans 34, Cowboys 17.
