Alexandria Ocasio-Cortes has called on Adams to resign “in the interest of the city.”

Since news of the charges against Eric Adams broke, more and more politicians have publicly called for him to resign, including at least 10 of the 51 members of the city council.

The most prominent candidate so far is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortes, who represents parts of the city in Congress, who said on social media that Adams should resign “for the good of the city.”

“I fail to see how Mayor Adams can continue to govern New York City,” she wrote.

Brooklyn City Councilman Lincoln Restler said “no mayor can serve under a criminal charge.”

“The only responsible course of action for New York City is for Mayor Eric Adams to resign,” he added. “If he refuses, he should be removed from office… New Yorkers deserve so much better.”

At least six senators and nine state Assembly members have also called for his resignation, along with New York City Auditor Brad Langer and former Auditor Scott Stringer.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has not yet commented on the charges.

Adams has so far rejected calls to resign.
