Live Wire: Vikings at Rams on ‘Thursday Night Football’

The Minnesota Vikings (5-1) are on the road in Week 8, traveling to California to take on the Los Angeles Rams (2-4) at SoFi Stadium. These two teams have faced each other 47 times in their history, with the Vikings holding a 22-16-2 advantage in the regular season, as well as a 5-2 advantage in the Playoffs. However, it was the home team that walked away victorious in three of the previous four meetings.

The Vikings got off to a good start to the season, operating with a top-ranked defense. They won their first five games. But coming off their bye week, they took on the Lions and suffered their first loss of the season. Now, after a physical matchup against Detroit, and in a short week, we’ll see if the “Lions Hangover” comes into play again.

The Rams also tangled with the Lions (in the season opener) and lost as well, then fell victim to the injury bug in the following weeks and struggled to win games. They’re just now slowly starting to get healthy, and they’ll need to start piling up wins before the season gets away from them.

Betting line and choice for the game

It’s not surprising to see the folks at FanDuel Sportsbook favor Minnesota in this game, but the betting line is set at Vikings -3 points, illustrates that this game may be closer than most experts think.

The Rams are a feisty team right now and Cooper Kupp is expected to return to the lineup, which should give Matthew Stafford a huge boost. But if the Rams want to overcome the upset, they will need their defense to force the Vikings to make mistakes. I’d like to side with the Rams in this game, but the Vikings are legit and should be able to pull out the win.

Prediction: Vikings 24-17
