There’s been a huge shift in the restaurant world over the past two weeks: fall menus are turning into holiday menus. Cracker Barrel, Starbucks and Dunkin’ have all pivoted from fall offerings to festive treats, with each menu item promising to put you in good spirits and holiday spirits.

And now McDonald’s has brought back a menu item that fans wait all year for: the festive treat that has been around long enough to become a tradition for many, with one generation passing it down to the next.

McDonald’s Holiday Pie is back

We’re talking about McDonald’s Holiday Pie, of course. The seasonal fan favorite is made with creamy, smooth custard piped into the flaky, buttery crust of McDonald’s hand pies, glazed with sugar and topped with rainbow sprinkles. It’s a limited-time offer, available at participating McDonald’s while supplies last.

We all have our family holiday traditions and many of them revolve around food. McDonald’s is apparently no different. Golden Arches’ Holiday Pie debuted almost a quarter century ago, in 1999, and has truly become an all-time favorite for many McDonald’s customers.

Last year, when the pie returned for the season, Instagram’s @markie_devo posted to his page and told his followers, “Get your shit together and head to @mcdonalds, the Holiday Pie is back!” The comments section got a little sentimental.

“My mom and I used to get these and go look at Christmas lights when I was little. This is my second Christmas without my mom, but my daughters and I still love the tradition,” one commenter noted.

Another commenter who has a birthday in December said that when they turned 21 last year they got 21 Christmas cakes. “The best gift I ever received,” they said, and we wondered if they got twenty cakes on their twentieth birthday, nineteen cakes on their nineteenth, and so on.

The raves just kept coming.

“The only item that makes me run to McDonald’s!” one Instagrammer exclaimed. Another said: “Ah yes, definitely the best of the year!”

One of markie_devo’s followers summed up all the excitement nicely, saying: “It’s the most wonderful time of the yearrrrrr.”

And speaking of tradition: @markie_devo had the honor of posting about the return of the cake again this year. “IT’S BACK!! That crunchy custard treat, the McDonald’s Holiday Pie,” he wrote.

Does this mean McDonald’s Pumpkin and Cream Pie will no longer be on the menu? Probably, but if you get to that sweet spot when a local McDonald’s is finishing up their inventory of fall pies and doing so Also If you start selling the Holiday Pie, you could just hit the jackpot.
