LANSING, MI — A player in Texas was the sole winner of the $800 million Mega Millions jackpot in the drawing held on Tuesday, Sept. 10. The win marks only the third time this year that someone has won a Mega Millions jackpot.

The $800 million prize pool is the seventh-largest prize ever won in Mega Millions history.

The winning numbers are: 1-2-16-24-66

Megaplier: 4

Mega Millions Winners on September 10:

• Along with the grand prize winner, four players matched all five drawn white balls to win $1 million in the drawing. Those tickets were sold in California, Florida, New York and Washington.
• None of these players also played the Megaplier option, which would have increased their winnings to $4 million.
• In Michigan, three tickets sold won $10,000 in the drawing, the largest prize won in the state.
• There were 1,006,420 tickets sold that won at least $4 in the drawing. In Michigan, 38,128 tickets were sold that won at least $4 in the drawing.

Mega Millions draws are held on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 p.m. Five balls are drawn from a set of balls numbered 1 through 70; the Mega Ball is drawn from a set of balls numbered 1 through 25. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 302 million.

Mega Millions is played in 44 states, plus the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands. Tickets cost $2 each.

The last Michigan player to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot was the Breakfast Club lottery club, which claimed an $842 million jackpot in June 2024. Members plan to use the money to buy a home in Florida and travel.

And while they were lucky winners, players would be wise to check their tickets right away, as a $1 million Mega Millions winner sold in Southfield in 2023 went unclaimed. The money instead went to the state’s School Aid Fund.
