Michigan Wolverines football adds five-star OT Andrew Babalola

Michigan received a commitment from five-star forward Andrew Babalola on Monday evening.

The Overland Park (Kansas) Blue Valley Northwest senior chose the Wolverines over Stanford, Auburn, Missouri and Oklahoma in a contentious recruitment.

Babalola originally considered a commitment for the end of July after his official visits in June. That was pushed back to August and then September before he set a firm deadline to announce his college decision during his final regular-season game, which is Friday.

He will be the highest-ranked commit in Michigan’s 2025 recruiting class, according to 247Sports.

Babalola was a basketball player who didn’t play a real football game until his junior season. By the end of his sophomore year, he was participating in spring ball. Despite his lack of experience, Babalola’s 6-foot-4, 280-pound frame and athleticism carried over from the basketball court immediately made him a Power Four recruit.

Babalola, a Bloomfield Township native, cited his relationships with head coach Sherrone Moore, offensive line coach Grant Newsome and director of recruiting Sam Popper as some of his most important connections in Ann Arbor. He was an excellent student and academics also played a big part of his decision.

Moore and Newsome attended his game during the Wolverines’ bye week.

“Michigan and first-year head coach Sherrone Moore have landed his biggest commitment yet, figuratively and literally, in five-star forward Andrew Babalola,” said Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider. “The elite lineman had a lot of options, but hopes Moore and offensive line coach Grant Newsome pull off the big recruiting win.

“The Wolverines have placed a heavy emphasis on winning in the trenches, and Babalola will help strengthen the offensive line for years to come and ultimately be one of the pillars of this tremendous offense. With a huge win like this it could really happen get the momentum going again in this class and help this cycle with more top goals.

Michigan has 17 commitments in its category for 2025 with the addition of Babalola. He joins state recruit Avery Gach and IMG Academy Kaden Strayhorn as offensive linemen in the class.

Cincinnati commit offered, will visit

Michigan offered a scholarship to the Newburgh (Indiana) Castle defensive lineman Benny Patterson last week. Following that offer, Patterson has a visit scheduled for Saturday when the Wolverines host Michigan State.

Patterson, a 6-4, 240-pound senior, is committed to Cincinnati but has added offers from USC, Florida State, LSU and others this fall.

He is considered a top 25 senior in Indiana by 247Sports.
