The NCAA has reportedly banned Oklahoma State’s football team from wearing QR code stickers on their helmets during games.

According to a press release sent to X by The Oklahoman’s Jacob Unruh, Oklahoma State has said that no student-athlete on the roster will be allowed to wear the decal on their football helmet.

The code links to a general team fund for student-athletes. Oklahoma State Athletics said the QR codes will still be posted throughout Boone Pickens Stadium and on the video board during the game.

The school said the NCAA interprets the QR code stickers as “advertising and/or commercial marks.”

“We disagree with the interpretation of the rule, but we will abide by it and work with the appropriate groups to bring about the necessary change,” OSU Athletic Director Chad Weiberg said in a statement. “Our staff came up with an innovative concept to increase the NIC value of our student-athletes, but ultimately it is just the latest example of how college sports is evolving faster than the rulebook.”
