Nebraska volleyball remains at No. 2, while Creighton rises to No. 11 in the latest AVCA poll

Nebraska’s volleyball team retained its second-place ranking in the latest AVCA poll, while Creighton rose to 11th.

The Huskers are undefeated through three games on the season and are ranked No. 2 for the second straight week, behind reigning champion Texas.

The top five was completed by: No. 3 Pittsburgh, No. 4 Louisville and No. 5 Stanford.

The Big Ten led all conferences with eight ranked teams: No. 2 Nebraska, No. 6 Wisconsin, No. 7 Penn State, No. 8 Purdue, No. 12 Oregon, No. 18 Minnesota, No. 20 USC and No. 25 UCLA. Ohio State and Indiana both received votes in the poll.

The Huskers opened the season with a four-set win over No. 9 Kentucky, then defeated Texas A&M – Corpus Christi and defeated TCU in four sets.

Rebekah Allick and Bergen Reilly received weekly Big Ten awards for their performances.

Allick was named Defensive Player of the Week after matching her highest block total ever (12) against Kentucky and finishing the week with 19.

Reilly earned her seventh weekly honor after being named setter of the week. Reilly recorded a double-double in every match last week and served a career-high five aces against the Islanders.

Nebraska returns to action at SMU on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the ACC Network.

After opening the season with three straight wins at the Bluejay Invitational, Creighton rose to No. 11 in the latest poll. It’s the Jays’ highest ranking since 2019.

Creighton defeated NC State, Missouri and Drake in Omaha, and two Jays earned weekly honors.

Creighton’s Jaya Johnson and Kendra Wait were named Big East players of the week on Monday.

Middle blocker Jaya Johnson was named Big East freshman of the week after posting 11 kills and hitting .526 against the Wolfpack. She is the first player in program history to debut with at least 11 kills and hit .500 or better.

Setter Kendra Wait, the MVP of the Bluejay Invitational, averaged 11.2 assists and 3.1 digs per set and hit .421 last week.

CU was one of two Big East teams ranked in the top 25, with Marquette at No. 24.

The Jays play USC in Omaha next Thursday at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on FS1.
