Netflix’s best new show comes with a perfect score of 100% from critics

Well, a new show has made it into the Netflix Top 10 and is returning for its third season, and the series is doing quite well, debuting at No. 1. That would be The Lincoln Lawyer, now back for season 3, and a season release not cut in half like the first, presumably because Netflix didn’t like those numbers last time, as people probably tuned out for the second batch.

Now all ten episodes of The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 are here, and at least in the early reviews, it has a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. That is to say… with only five reviews in, but it’s still a promising start, and indicates that this will likely ultimately live up to the quality of the other two seasons, which scored 80% and 91%. respectively. Now the show has an average of 90% with critics and 84% with fans. Very good!

However, I think this situation says something about the TV critical landscape, where only five critics in the entire country have currently watched and reviewed the most popular show in America. The exact same thing happened with Outer Banks Season 4, which now also has 100%, but despite debuting much earlier and staying at #1 for a long time, it still only has five reviews. What is everyone doing? There seems to be a strong preference for movie reviews or even video game reviews compared to TV at the moment, which seems completely bizarre to me considering that streaming television is the most popular form of entertainment in America when measured by total hours watched. What do we as entertainment journalists prioritize here? It’s so strange.

As for The Lincoln Lawyer, the show remains a pretty big success for Netflix, plentiful source material, good reviews, loved by audiences, widely watched and most importantly… cheap. This legal drama doesn’t require flashy visual effects. And it doesn’t need the prestige of a Better Call Saul to be a hit. Netflix doesn’t care if it wins Emmys (and oh wait, Better Call Saul never did either, another crime by TV critics).

Eventually more reviews will come in, but probably not many. Season 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer still only has 11 reviews after all this time, where it was once again the top show on Netflix for a long time. Season 1 has a reasonable 35 ratings. Meanwhile, Dennis Quaid’s terrible Reagan film has received 67 reviews from film critics. Smile 2 has 122. Bizarre.
