San Francisco 49ers star defensive back Nick Bosa has been fined by the NFL for wearing a hat with a pro-Donald Trump message during a post-game television interview, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Saturday, according to sources.

Bosa was fined $11,255 for violating NFL uniform and equipment rules for wearing a hat with a personalized message, Rapoport and Pelissero said.

Bosa crashed a television interview with quarterback Brock Purdy during NBC’s post-game coverage of the Niners’ victory over the Dallas Cowboys on October 27. Bosa pointed to a message on his white hat that read “Make America Great Again” in support of Trump’s candidacy for president.

The NFL rules state that “during the period on game day when a player is visible to the stadium and television audience (including during pre-game warm-ups, on the bench, and during post-game interviews in the locker room or on the field ), Players are prohibited from wearing, displaying or otherwise conveying personal messages, whether written or illustrative, unless such message has been previously approved by the League office.”

Bosa, who agreed to a five-year, $170 million contract extension in September 2023, said earlier this week he was aware his actions could be subject to a fine.

“It was definitely worth it,” he said.
