NJ’s 300-acre wildfires are 60% contained, authorities say

A 300-acre wildfire in Cumberland County is 60% contained Saturday and no buildings are at risk, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.

The Downe Township fire is expected to be fully contained at 140 acres, officials said.

No buildings have been evacuated or in danger, but Railroad Avenue between Dividing Creek Road and Ackley Avenue will remain closed Saturday, officials said.

Ground crews worked with the help of fire trucks and bulldozers to contain the forest fire that started Thursday evening, authorities said.

The fire was 50% contained on Friday and the next update from the Forest Fire Service is expected on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., officials said.

Several other wildfires have continued to burn across the state as New Jersey suffers a historic dry spell.
