“Nothing broken by a miracle” – Loana Lecomte on brutal Olympic crash, but hopes to be back racing in a few weeks

The Olympics have seen a number of unfortunate crashes so far. The road time trials were heavily affected by rain and several riders fell, but the mountain bike events also left fans scared after French rider Loana Lecomte crashed and fell unconscious. However, Lecomte has recovered despite her injuries and has given an update while in good spirits in Paris.

“I have a slight concussion, a few bruises everywhere, but by some miracle nothing is broken. And six stitches under my chin, so I will have a good memory of the Games,” Lecomte said in a statement. “I will be monitored by the Federation doctor for 48 hours. And then a week of rest. When you fall, you have to get back up and I will go down even faster!”

It was during a rock garden section, a technical part of the fast Paris course, that the Crans-Montana World Cup race winner fell while close to the front of the race. She suffered a concussion and, surprisingly, some bruising to her face, but surprisingly avoided any fractures, which means her recovery will be shorter and she can still think about her next goals in the coming weeks. The race was eventually won by her compatriot Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, while in the men’s team, her compatriot Victor Koretzky was beaten by Tom Pidcock.

Lecomte’s injuries are fortunately not too serious and she still hopes to compete at the end of August in the world championships in Andorra, that lake, where she would have a chance of winning medals in her best form. “It remains a goal, but I really have to listen to the doctor and get back into it gradually. I will do everything I can to arrive strong at the end of August,”
