Obama slams pro-Trump men at Philadelphia rally; Springsteen warns that Republican candidate is ‘an American tyrant’

Former President Barack Obama headlined a speech in support of Vice President Kamala Harris in Philadelphia on Monday, spending most of his remarks criticizing former President Trump and at one point appearing to admonish men who, as a voting bloc, are more favorable for him to be the Democratic candidate.

During his speech at the Liacouras Center, home of the Temple Owls in North Philadelphia, Obama followed a host of speakers and performers, including Bruce Springsteen, John Legend, Democratic Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker and Senator Robert P. Casey, Jr., D-Pa.

“Don’t dawdle or dawdle…get out there,” Obama said, addressing Pennsylvanians who had yet to vote on the penultimate day of early voting.

Obama blasted Trump for what he called the “Muslim ban,” claiming the Republican denies ever calling fallen American soldiers “losers and suckers.”

“I’ve noticed this, especially in some men who seem to think that Trump’s behavior is somehow a sign of strength. You know, kind of macho; fake macho stuff – I’m here to tell you that’s not what real strength is. Obama said at the end of his speech, after criticizing Trump’s New York City rally for crass comedian Kill Tony, who called Puerto Rico an “island of trash.”

“How can you tell yourself it’s okay (to vote for Trump) as long as our party wins?” he said, later adding: “Real strength is about hard work. Real strength is about taking responsibilities and real strength is about telling the truth even when it’s uncomfortable. Real strength is about being comfortable feeling enough to treat everyone with dignity and respect. Real strength is about helping those who need it, and standing up for those who can’t always stand up for themselves.”

Obama also made fun of Trump for selling “Trump Bibles” that were allegedly manufactured in China.

“He wants you to follow the Word of God; the Donald Trump edition,” essentially mentioning Trump’s name, appears there “alongside Matthew and Luke.”

“You’re a tough guy when it comes to China, unless you can make a few bucks,” he said, comparing what he saw as Trump’s weaknesses to an “SNL” skit.

“The guy’s having a big rally at Madison Square Garden, and the warm-up speakers were like, ‘He’s trotting out the most racist, sexist, bigoted stereotypes,’” he said, before going on to describe Kill Tony’s widely criticized set. .

While the crowd often booed references to Trump or his surrogates, Obama repeatedly criticized the crowd for its response.

“No one can hear your boos, but they can hear your voice,” he said, repeating the theme at several points.

Obama also used Harris’ running mate to take shots at his old political nemesis.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz says he has the skills to “take apart a vintage truck and put it back together.”

“Do you think Donald Trump could do that?” he joked. “Do you think Donald Trump has ever changed a flat tire in his life? He calls his driver ‘Jeeves’.”

Obama also accused Trump of taking credit for what he claimed was “his” economy, which he suggested he should rebuild his entire government after the financial crisis under former President George W. Bush.

At one point, the former president took a more personal tone, saying his father was not present at his home during his childhood.

Obama, the child of Barack Obama Sr. and Stanley Ann Dunham, grew up mostly with Dunham, who went by her middle name.

“(But) I did have people around me; my stepfather, grandparents, teachers, coaches and especially my mother, who taught me the difference between right and wrong; who showed me what it meant to be honest and to be honest to be responsible and work hard and treat other people the way I wanted to be treated. And I didn’t always live up to those values,” he said.

“When I was a teenager, I partied way too much… but over time I internalized that and I tried to live by it. And I’m guessing most of you grew up the same way.”

Obama had been preceded by an introducer named John Solomon, and earlier by Springsteen – who performed solo versions of “Land of Hope and Dreams” and “Dancing in the Dark.”

Springsteen, who also notably performed on Philadelphia’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway for then-Senator Obama of Illinois during the 2008 cycle, ran into Trump during his breaks.

At one point, the septuagenarian Jersey rocker declared, “Donald Trump is on his way to becoming an American tyrant.”

“This election is about a group of people who want to fundamentally undermine an American way of life. Donald Trump does not understand this country, its history, or what it means to be deeply American,” “The Boss” added.

Before Springsteen, Casey spoke about the importance of women’s rights, and was preceded by Legend, who claimed that “freedom is at stake in this election.”

“Donald Trump had four years… you saw what he did with those four years…” said Legend, whose real name is John Stephens.

Pennsylvania’s 19 electoral votes are seen as the proverbial key to the White House.

A spokesperson for Team Trump suggested after the meeting that Democrats’ decision to bring Obama back into the campaign circuit is a sign of desperation in the Commonwealth.

“The Democrats’ continued reliance on celebrities and Barack Obama, a president from more than a decade ago, to advocate for their party’s presidential nominee is another indication that Kamala’s ambition for four more years of unrestricted illegal immigration, inflation and wars abroad are decreasing. flat with Pennsylvanians,” said PA Team Trump spokesperson Kush Desai.

“Glitzy celebrities and presidents of yesteryear will not make up for a mediocre message, a disastrous record and a less attractive candidate,” he added.
