‘One of the worst own goals’: hockey world reacts to Lindgren’s blunder

Charlie Lindgren did something objectively hilarious on Wednesday. Well, hilarious for everyone except him and his Washington Capitals teammates.

The netminder was tied with the Tampa Bay Lightning at three goals apiece in the third period, created a clearance and immediately backhanded the puck into his own net.

Lindgren clearly intended to throw the puck off the boards to teammate John Carlson, but his kinesthetic sense failed him when he misjudged the location of the net he was responsible for.

The goal not only gave Tampa Bay the lead, it also gave Brayden Point a hat trick.

The Capitals eventually came back and won the game 5-4. It would be logical that the two-meter tall goalkeeper was relieved.

The misplay sent hockey fans into a frenzy on social media (aside from Capitals fans, of course). Here are some of the best reactions to Lindgren’s blunder.
