Capitals awards Charlie Lindgren gold chain as player of the game after own goal: ‘This man, first NHL tuck tonight’

The Washington Capitals defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-4 on Thanksgiving Eve for their eighth comeback win of the year – tied for the highest in the NHL.

Washington managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat by scoring two unanswered goals after Charlie Lindgren conceded an embarrassing own goal.

The team did not shy away from Lindgren’s miscue after the game. In fact, they rewarded him for it.

“You’re helping your brother,” Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery said proudly, noting Lindgren’s oopsie. “We will not be fooled. Everyone just digs in and does a little bit more to save them. Guys, great job.”

Than, Jacob Chychrunthe Capitals’ first gold chain winner, awarded Lindgren Player of the Game honors.

“Hey, quite a job keeping it up,” Chychrun said. “This guy, first NHL tuck tonight.”

The Capitals locker room erupted in laughter.

“But no, in all seriousness, buddy, the way to go about it,” Chychrun said. “That’s a difficult situation.”

After hugging the Caps’ starting defenseman, Lindgren accepted the award and gave a short but powerful speech.

“First NHL tuck,” he said. “But I fucking love you guys. Quite a job. Nice work.”

Fittingly, The Outlaw ended the ceremony with finger guns.
