Pair of Jayhawks drafted into Pro Volleyball Federation

Current Kansas volleyball seniors Toyosi Onabanjo and Camryn Turner will have the opportunity to play domestically at the next level once they complete their college careers.

Onabanjo was selected with the last pick of the first round of Monday’s Pro Volleyball Federation draft, No. 8 overall, by the Omaha Supernovas, while her teammate Turner went with the sixth pick of the third round, 22nd overall, to the Grand Rapids Rise went.

The pair will have the opportunity to join a slew of former Jayhawks who will join the league during its second season of existence in 2025, including libero Anna Church on the San Diego Mojo, outside hitter Reagan Cooper and righty hitter Kelsie Payne. about reigning champion Omaha, setter Ainise Havili about the expansion Indy Ignite and outside hitter Allison Mayfield about the Vegas Thrill.

Onabanjo, who is from Houston, transferred to KU from Iowa before the start of her junior season in 2023. She has taken a step forward on offense as a senior; the 6-foot-1 middle blocker is averaging 2.58 kills per set on a .408 hitting percentage, and is also responsible for 1.2 blocks per set.

Turner, a native of Topeka, is one of the best setters in the country. After earning Big 12 Conference Setter of the Year honors in 2023, she has recorded 11.46 assists per set so far this season, which is the best mark of her career and ranks No. 4 in the country. She is also among the team leaders in digs, posting 16 double-doubles this season.

Turner and Onabanjo are part of a sizable group of KU seniors that also includes Caroline Bien, London Davis and Ayah Elnady. The Jayhawks celebrate senior night against BYU on Wednesday at Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena.
