Archie Atkinson was in good spirits after his crash earlier today. The 20-year-old told Channel 4: “I think I’m OK. I can see and I’m still in one piece, I’m happy. It couldn’t have been better than that. I’ve never dug that deep and I think it showed. I just ran out of energy and went under.”

He continued: “It was mega. It was a bit out of this world. I feel a bit sick, I’m very proud, very happy. A Paralympic record and a silver medal, I don’t think I would have believed that in my wildest dreams. To be in the final against (Jozef) Metelka, one of the best C4s we’ve ever had, is a privilege. For your first Games, two rides against him, one where I came out on top and the second, he’s a better rider, so hats off to him.”

This afternoon’s archery session has been postponed slightly due to the weather in Paris. Jodie Grinham and Phoebe Paterson Pine will compete in the ParalympicsGB.

Britain’s Amy Truesdale has qualified for the semi-finals of the women’s K44 +65kg para-taekwondo. She secured a 30-9 victory over Rajae Akermach of Morocco this afternoon. Truesdale is now set to face Fernanda Vargas Fernandez of Mexico tonight.

Speaking after his fourth place in the final of the men’s 1,000 meter time trial C1-3, Jaco van Gass told Channel 4: “It’s heartbreaking to be quite honest. It’s just the factoring system, it shows they haven’t got it quite right. To ride a world record and not be equal in the medals, it shows the factoring system needs some work, maybe a shout-out to the UCI to look into that, because they’ve taken the third rider off every category, but the top riders like the French and the Chinese are so far ahead, it still benefits them. Yeah, that’s how it works.”

Despite his crash, Archie Atkinson still wins the silver medal. That is still an incredible achievement, especially for a 20 year old. He will undoubtedly come back even stronger!

Heartbreaking for GB’s Atkinson in cycling pursuit

Gatien le Rousseau has won bronze in the 4,000m individual pursuit for men C4 after beating fellow countryman Kevin le Cunff.

ParalympicsGB have just secured an 88-58 victory over Canada in the group stage of men’s wheelchair basketball. They are now approaching the quarter-finals.

Eden Rainbow-Cooper failed to complete her first T54 women’s 5,000m final this morning at the Stade de France. Just seconds into the race she was involved in a crash and the event was restarted. Although she initially tried to start again, she quickly withdrew from the race.

Switzerland’s Catherine Debrunner won gold, Susannah Scaroni of the United States took silver and Madison de Rozario of Australia took bronze.

Jaco van Gass has won silver medal position after a lightning-fast run by Chinese Liang Weicong, who clocked a time of 1:04:103.

Jaco van Gass hopes to extend his medal tally this afternoon in the final of the 1,000 meter time trial for men C1-3. The 38-year-old won gold yesterday in the men’s 3,000m individual pursuit C3, but today he faces a big challenge as he qualified fourth.

David Smith recorded a 4-1 victory over Dutchman Daniel Perez in his second boccia pool match this morning. Now that he has also won his first, Smith advances to the quarter-finals, which are scheduled for Sunday morning.

Jodie Grinham hopes to make history this afternoon at the Paralympic Games. The 31-year-old is already the first pregnant athlete to compete at the Paralympics, but now she wants to go one step further and become the first to win a medal. Grinham is doing it while seven months pregnant, but she remains adamant that she is determined to go for gold.

The archer said: “I’m pregnant, so what? If I was working in an office, I’d be fine working there until I was 39 weeks. So what’s the difference for me to compete in the Paralympics? I want to be a mother and an athlete. I’m not willing to sacrifice either. At home I’m a mother, but when I’m in athlete mode, that’s my mindset and total focus.”

So much for today in Paris… British Paralympic duo Paul Karabardak and Billy Shilton won bronze in the MD14 men’s table tennis doubles after losing to Thailand in the semi-finals.

Great Britain suffered a 54-63 defeat to Canada in the group stage of women’s wheelchair basketball.

And in men’s wheelchair basketball, Great Britain leads Canada 50-33 in the second quarter.
