Penn State’s James Franklin has a tense conversation with a fan after a crushing loss to Ohio State

It’s safe to say that James Franklin is public enemy number 1 in Happy Valley right now.

The third-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions dropped a heartbreaker at Beaver Stadium on Saturday, losing 20-13 to No. 4 Ohio State.

The loss dropped Franklin to 1-7 against top 10 teams at home, 6-10 against ranked teams at home, 1-9 against top 5 teams and 1-10 against Ohio State since being hired at Penn State.

Penn State fans are certainly waiting to see when they will get over this hump. And while the loss likely won’t have much impact on the Nittany Lions’ College Football Playoff chances, it does raise the question of whether they’re ready for that stage.

Apparently a fan of the game wanted to find out for themselves.

As Franklin left the field after the game, he shook hands and hugged several people on the run-up to the tunnel, but he must have heard something in the stands.

Two fans were ripping Franklin, with one saying, “That’s terrible.” Another fan’s words are difficult to understand, but Franklin took exception.

Franklin approached the fan, who was clearly angry, and asked his name. At that point, the fan no longer wanted to be part of the chat and left Franklin a farewell message.

“If you’re man enough to talk, what’s your name?” Franklin asked again.

Franklin then walked through the tunnel to applause from other Penn State fans.

Penn State jumped out to a 10-0 lead quickly, but didn’t score an offensive touchdown all day. The only touchdown was a pick-six when the defense first took the field.

Penn State had a golden opportunity to tie the game when it had first and goal from inside the 5-yard line with five minutes left in the fourth quarter.

But the Buckeyes’ defense stopped Penn State’s offense four times from the 5-yard line to keep them out of the end zone, securing a 20-13 victory.
