Photos capture the devastation and panic of the September 11, 2001 attacks

The images of September 11, 2001, are still shocking to watch more than twenty years later. Think of the moment when hijacked planes crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center and the survivors who ran in panic from a huge plume of smoke.

On that tragic day in New York, nearly 3,000 people lost their lives as a result of the attacks. Thousands more suffered and died from cancer related to the work at Ground Zero in the aftermath.
