PHOTOS: Hunter’s Moon shines brightest Thursday evening in Supermoon spectacularly

NEW YORK – A Supermoon will grace our sky on Thursday evening, and it will be a showstopper.

The Hunter’s Moon, the largest full moon of the year, will shine brightest after sunset.

THE HUNTER MOON RISING THIS WEEK WILL BE THE BRIGHTEST SUPERMOON OF THE YEAR

Images from China tonight offer a taste of what American viewers can expect.

The Hunter’s Moon is a Supermoon because it occurs at perigee, the moon’s closest point to Earth. This is the third of four consecutive Supermoons, and is expected to be the brightest, albeit only by a small margin.

Although the Moon appeared full earlier this week, it was officially at its fullest at 7:26 AM EDT on Thursday. To witness the stunning glow in North America, however, you’ll have to wait until after sunset on Thursday evening.

NEW MINI-MOON TO ORBIT AROUND EARTH, BUT WILL NOT STAY AROUND LONG

The Hunter’s Moon is named after the Harvest Moon and has been recognized since 1710, according to the Farmers’ Almanac.

HERE IS A LIST OF FUTURE CELESTIAL EVENTS

The next full moon, the Beaver Moon on November 15, will also be a Supermoon.
