Pop star Chappell Roan yells at photographer on MTV VMAs red carpet

Chappell Roan clashed with a photographer at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.

While Roan posed for photos on the red carpet on Wednesday night, the pop star got into a heated exchange with a photographer who yelled, “Shut your f— mouth.”

She immediately turned around, pointed at the photographer after the rude comment was made and replied, “Shut your f— mouth.”

The “Good Luck, Babe!” singer added, “Don’t do that! Not me, b—-!” A voice could be heard in the background encouraging her, saying, “Tell ’em, girl!”

The 26-year-old later explained what happened during the tense meeting.

“This is pretty overwhelming and pretty scary. As someone who gets a lot of anxiety from people yelling at you, the carpet is horrible and I yelled back. You can’t yell at me like that.”

“It’s pretty overwhelming and pretty scary,” Roan told Entertainment Tonight. “As someone who gets a lot of anxiety from people yelling at you, the carpet is horrible and I yelled back. You can’t yell at me like that.”

On the red carpet, Roan wore a sheer maroon dress. Her medieval-inspired look included a sword, a light green cloak, a large cross necklace, and long, pointed fingernails.

During the show, she performed her hit single “Good Luck, Babe!” and won the award for Best New Artist.

The “Pink Pony Club” singer’s viral red carpet moment comes after she previously accused several fans of stalking, harassment and “predatory behavior” in scathing social media posts.

“For the past 10 years I’ve been building my project non-stop and it’s gotten to the point where I have to draw lines and set boundaries. I want to be an artist for a very long time,” she shared in a lengthy Instagram post.

“I just need to explain and remind you that women don’t owe you s—,” she added. “I chose this career path because I love music and art and honor my inner child. I will not accept any form of harassment for choosing this path, nor do I deserve it.”

Roan addressed her fans after experiencing “non-consensual physical and social interactions.”

The singer drew a line in her statement after pointing out “predatory behavior” that she said is “masquerading as ‘superfan’ behavior.”

“Please stop touching me. Please stop being weird to my family and friends. Please stop assuming things about me,” she begged.

“There’s always more to the story and I’m scared and I’m tired. And please don’t call me Kayleigh,” she added, referring to her legal first name. “I feel more love than I’ve ever felt in my life. I feel more unsafe than I’ve ever felt in my life.”

The “Casual” singer shot to mega-stardom after her Coachella performance went viral in 2024. The pop star has 4 million followers on Instagram and another 3 million on TikTok.
