Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors

British pop star Lily Allen has a number of hits to her name, but she revealed that one particular side hustle seems to be making her more money.

The “Smile” hitmaker, 39, took to X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, October 25, to clap back at a hater who had some comments for her about certain photos she was selling on OnlyFans.

After sharing an assortment of photos of her feet and directing followers to her OnlyFans, Allen received a response from a follower: “Imagine being one of the biggest pop stars/musicians in Europe and then being reduced to this.”

Allen — known for hits like “LDN,” “The Fear” and the viral TikTok song “F**k You” — responded, explaining that while she’s still a musician first, she’s learned that it supplementing one’s income is essential in the industry. .

“Imagine being a (sic) artist and having almost 8 million monthly listeners on Spotify, but making more money because 1,000 people subscribe to pictures of your feet,” Allen said. “Don’t hate the player, hate the game.”

Allen has four albums in her catalogue, her most recent being from 2018 No shame. She is also the mother of two girls – Ethel Mary, 12, and Marnie Rose, 11 – both of whom she shares with her ex-husband, Sam Cooper.

In a March 2024 episode of the Radio times podcast, Allen joked that her music career had taken a back seat after having children – with some nice words that were met with controversy.

“My kids ruined my career,” Allen joked. “I mean, I love them and they complete me, but in terms of pop stardom, they totally ruined it.”

She continued, explaining that she doesn’t regret prioritizing her children.

“I chose to take a step back and focus on (my children), and I’m glad I did because I think they’re pretty well-rounded people,” Allen said, “fingers crossed.”
