After Texas football quarterback Quinn Ewers was injured, Arch Manning has stepped in.

Leading 14-0 with 12:19 left in the second quarter, Ewers began to limp off the court after a handoff before taking a knee and stopping the play. Manning, a redshirt freshman, has taken Ewers’ place in the UT huddle as the Longhorns look to secure their third win of the season.

On his first play, Manning faked a handoff and threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Moore Jr., giving UT a 21-0 lead.

This is the second appearance of the season for Manning, who was a five-star signee in the 2023 recruiting cycle. Manning played in the second half of the Colorado State game on Aug. 31 and accounted for two touchdowns in that 52-0 victory.

Ewers, a junior, returned in street clothes due to what Steve Sarkisian called an abdominal injury.

Before the injury, Ewers had completed 14 of 16 passes for 185 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception before the injury. For the game, Ewers had 506 yards, six touchdowns, and one interception, leading to talk of a Heisman Trophy bid.
