Rams’ Cooper Kupp will practice to determine Week 7 status

LOS ANGELES – Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp will undergo a workout Monday that will help determine whether he can practice this week and ultimately play against the Las Vegas Raiders, coach Sean McVay said.

Kupp hasn’t played since spraining his ankle in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals.

“Today will be a big day for guys like Cooper Kupp,” McVay said. “We’ll see how he does. He is making good progress. I’ll get an injury update (Wednesday) on how he’s doing today.

“There’s a possibility he’s ready this week. There’s also a possibility he’s not ready.”

Kupp’s training with the training staff includes “game-like movements” and running routes. McVay said Kupp “knows what it looks like to have his body aligned to return to performance, not just return to play” and that the Rams “want to be smart about that.”

“But even talking to him earlier today, he’s feeling good and optimistic,” McVay said. “But he’s also very aware of what it looks like to be ready to roll and maybe not quite there yet. So today is going to be a big day.”

Through two games this season, Kupp has 18 catches for 147 yards and a touchdown.

McVay said the only other injured player who could potentially return to practice is tackle Joe Noteboom, who has “a big workout scheduled for Monday” that could lead to the Rams beginning his 21-day practice window. Noteboom sprained his ankle in the Rams’ season opener.

McVay also confirmed that wide receiver Puka Nacua (PCL sprain) and offensive lineman Steve Avila (MCL sprain) are not expected to return from injured reserve this week.
