Report: Matt Rhule, Nebraska expected to hire Dana Holgorsen as offensive consultant

Dana Holgorsen will reportedly join the staff Nebraska.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported the hiring for the Cornhuskers on Tuesday. This brings Holgorsen to Lincoln to become an offensive advisor on the staff under Matt Rhule.

“Sources: Nebraska adds former Houston And West Virginia added head coach Dana Holgorsen to the staff as an offensive advisor,” Thamel tweeted this morning. “He will work with the offensive staff in a role that will evolve as the season progresses.”

This comes after the ‘Huskers pursued Holgorsen this last offseason. After he became available on the coaching market in late November, it was confirmed in early January that Nebraska was in talks with him. It also comes after Holgorsen spent time TCU this year as an analyst and scout for the Horned Frogs.

Holgorsen has spent the past 30 years on the college sidelines, including as head coach in the 13 seasons prior to this one, eight at West Virginia and five at Houston. The Cougars fired him last offseason, posting a 31-28 (.525) record. That brought his total mark as head coach to 92-69 (.571).

In the 2000s, Holgorsen worked as an assistant in the Big 12 State of OklahomaHouston, and Texas technology. He did this with work as an offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach and receivers coach. He also spent time at Wingate, Mississippi College and Valdosta State in similar offensive roles in the 1990s.
