Richard Gere causes a scene.

During an appearance on the “Today” show, the Hollywood actor stuck his middle finger in the air at host Savannah Guthrie, which surprised her.

Guthrie scolded Gere and asked, “What did you just do?” as she tried to cover his middle finger with her stack of papers.

“Oh sorry… but that’s what I did in the play,” Gere referred to his television scene in his upcoming show, “The Agency.”

“You just made an obscene gesture on this family morning show,” Guthrie responded.

Gere continued to playfully move around his hand and appeared to be teasing the morning show host as she tried to hide his every move.

“I didn’t know I was in front of the camera,” Gere added. “I’ll beep you,” she broke in.

Guthrie went on to explain that music icon Cher dropped an F-bomb during their live show yesterday and that the show now had to deal with Gere’s “obscene gesture.”

“I don’t know what’s going on,” she commented, explaining that they had to remove the scene where Gere gave the middle finger in their segment from the show. “But then you did it live.”

“That was the clip… and without it there was no point,” Gere laughed and said in his defense.

Later in the interview, the “Pretty Woman” actor emphasized, “My hand did that… I have no control over it.”

Gere’s actions come a day after Cher cursed on the morning show.

While Cher was explaining a story in her book “Cher: The Memoir: Part One,” she shared advice Lucille Ball once gave her about divorcing Sonny Bono, but warned host Hoda Kotb that she “can’t say the word” on live television.

When the host was caught off guard, she responded, “Okay, we didn’t have a seven-second (delay), but we’ll have that for the next feed.” Cher then playfully said, “Well, you said I could do it!”
