Richard Gere has sold his house in Connecticut to leave the country. This is why

“Chicago” star Richard Gere has decided to sell his home in New Canaan, Connecticut.

Gere bought the house in 2022 through a trust linked to him from singer-songwriters Paul Simon and Edie Brickell for $10.8 million. Simon and Brickell sold at a loss, as they originally paid $16.5 million.

The estate covers approximately 32 hectares with a house with 6 bedrooms and 11 bathrooms, a swimming pool, several gardens and features reminiscent of its construction in 1938.

According to the New Canaan Advertiser reporting in 2023, “Pretty Woman” leadership planned to use the Brookwood Lane property for low-impact agriculture.

However, according to People magazine, Gere has decided to sell the Connecticut estate for $10.75 million.

This is why he gave up such a lavish and decadent home.

Gere said in an interview with Vanity Fair Spain that he wanted to move to Madrid so that his wife, Alejandra Silva, could be closer to her relatives and so that he could spend more time in the country where his wife was born.

Gere bought a mansion in Madrid this year for 11 million euros, which was reported by various outlets such as Marca, Hello Magazine and the Drinks Business.

The mansion is reportedly three stories tall with a heated pool and wine cellar, and the estate itself spans 10,000 square feet.
