NEW CANAAN – A Stamford-based luxury home developer has purchased actor Richard Gere’s home on Brookwood Lane for $10.75 million, according to land records.

Brookwood Hills LLC, with the same address as SBP Homes, is listed as the new owner of the sprawling 32-acre estate at 82 Brookwood Lane. Brookwood Hills purchased the property on Oct. 10 from Kensho Trust. Jim Hoffman, co-founder of SBP Homes, is listed as the principal of Brookwood Hills LLC. David Rucci is listed as the trustee of Kensho Trust.

The 8,811-square-foot 1938 mansion has 16 rooms, including 6 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, 3 half bathrooms, a kitchen, two enclosed porches, three open porches, a pool and a three-car garage.

SBP Homes is an all-inclusive general contractor and real estate development company headquartered at 289 Selleck St. in Stamford. As a full-service developer, SBP oversees site selection, acquisition, financing, construction, leasing, property management and property maintenance. The portfolio includes 75 luxury homes in Connecticut, Southampton (Long Island), South Florida and New York City.

It is not yet known what plans SBP has for the building in Brookwood Lane.

At the time of the sale, the former Gere estate was valued at $11.1 million. It was appraised by the city of New Canaan at $7.76 million. According to land records, the 82 Brookwood Lane property was valued at as much as $10.15 million in 2020.

Through the Kensho Trust, Gere purchased the property from the trusts of singers Paul Simon and Edie Brickell in 2022 for $10.8 million. Simon purchased the property from the estate of business magnate and philanthropist Charles Dana in 2002 for $16.5 million.

Last year, the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission approved Gere’s request to convert part of the property into a farm that would sell produce directly to consumers, according to the New Canaan Advertiser. The next step was for Gere and his wife, Alejandra Silva, to apply for a tax exemption to farm on the property.

In 2022, Gere had sold his 50-acre Pound Ridge estate across the border in New York for $28 million.

According to a Mansion Global report, the 11,658-square-foot estate at 81 Lyndel Road has eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms, and the property includes stables, a private lake with a sandy beach and island, a soccer field and a swimming pool. Gere purchased the land in 1986 for $1.51 million and the property was under construction in 2000.

According to business publication The Drinks, Gere and Silva have reportedly bought a mansion in Madrid for €11 million. The property features a wine cellar. According to The Drinks, film stars ‘The Pretty Woman’ and ‘Officer and a Gentleman’ praised Spain for its ‘extraordinary food’.
