Russell Wilson meets George Pickens for the first TD with the Steelers

PITTSBURGH – Welcome to Pittsburgh, Russell Wilson.

The former Seahawks and ex-Broncos quarterback connected with wide receiver George Pickens for Wilson’s first touchdown as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers on an 11-yard back-shoulder throw Sunday against the New York Jets.

Pickens caught the pass with 27 seconds left in the first half, and the TD cut the Jets’ lead to 15-13. The scoring throw overshadowed a rough start for Wilson, who looked rusty in his first start after dealing with a lingering calf injury that delayed his debut with the franchise.

But the veteran found a way to capitalize on rookie undrafted free agent Beanie Bishop Jr.’s interception of Aaron Rodgers, taking the offense 54 yards in four plays in 48 seconds.

The drive started with an 11-yard completion to Van Jefferson, and Wilson targeted Pickens deep two plays later. Pickens drew a defensive pass interference call against Sauce Gardner to move the ball 29 yards to the 11-yard line.

Two plays later, Wilson threw to Pickens again, this time for the score – marking Wilson and Pickens’ first scores of the season.
