    SEC in updated Coaches Poll, AP Top 25

    The first week of the American football season is over and it is clear that the SEC is still the conference to continue in 2024.

    Georgia, ranked No. 1 in the preseason Top 25 polls, defeated No. 14 Clemson by beating the Tigers 34-3 in Atlanta, further underscoring that it is the team to beat this college football season.

    Quarterback Nico Iamaleava impressed in his first regular-season start for No. 15 Tennessee. The 6-foot-6 quarterback spearheaded an explosive day for the Vols offense, one that saw them total 717 yards of offense in the 69-3 win over Chattanooga. Individually, Iamaleava completed 22 of 28 passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns.

    Thanks to impressive debut performances from freshman wide receiver Ryan Williams and Michigan transfer safety Keon Sabb, Alabama defeated No. 5 Western Kentucky 63-0 in Kalen DeBoer’s first game as coach of the Crimson Tide after replacing Nick Saban.

    Another story from Week 1 in the SEC is Vanderbilt pulling off a 34-27 overtime upset win over Virginia Tech in the ACC. Elsewhere, No. 4 Texas, No. 6 Ole Miss and No. 11 Missouri all shut out their opponents in Week 1. Arch Manning threw his first touchdown with the Longhorns in Texas’ 52-0 win over Colorado State.

    It wasn’t all perfect for the SEC in Week 1, with No. 12 LSU falling to No. 23 USC on Sunday and No. 20 Texas A&M losing a home game to No. 7 Notre Dame in College Station. And then there was Florida, which was trounced 41-17 by rival Miami in Gainesville.
