    See the cast of the ‘Wicked’ movie side by side with original Broadway actors

    Bad debuted on Broadway in 2003, and more than two decades later it’s getting the Hollywood treatment.

    The Bad The film, which hits theaters on November 22, stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as beloved characters Elphaba and Glinda, roles created on stage by Tony-winning actresses Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth.

    Jon M. Chu is the first director to adapt the original Tony-winning musical for the big screen, and he has already received approval from the show’s original stars. “The story is so great, and Cynthia and Ariana are great. The entire cast is great,” Chenoweth said on Instagram after seeing a screening of the film in October 2024. “Jon Chu did a great job. I was so moved, emotional, happy and filled with joy.     However, according to Erivo, the film differs slightly from the original production. To fully tell the story, the film will also be released in two parts, with the second part premiering in 2025.

    Idina Menzel won a Tony Award for her role as Elphaba in 2003 Bad – just one of five Broadway shows she has performed in so far. The actress and singer made her stage debut in the original 1996 cast Rent and reprized her role in the 2005 film adaptation. Menzel is also known for voicing Elsa in the Disney animated film Frozen.

    Like the original Elphaba, Cynthia Erivo got her start on Broadway, winning a Tony Award in 2016 for her role as Celie in The color purple.     Kristin Chenoweth originally played Glinda in the 2003 Broadway production. Her performance earned her a 2004 Tony nomination for Best Lead Actress in a Musical, although her costar Menzel won the award.     Ariana Grande told Amazon Music Zach Sang show that she wanted the chance to play Glinda since she was twenty.     Norbert Leo Butz played Fiyero, Elphaba and Glinda’s love interest in the 2003 musical. The two-time Tony winner is known for his Broadway performances in Catch me if you can And Dirty rotten villains.     BridgertonJonathan Bailey plays Fiyero in the 2024 film. He is best known for his role as Anthony Bridgerton in the Netflix series and starring in shows like Heart stopper And Fellow travelers.     Joel Gray was the original Wizard of Oz in the 2003 production Bad. The longtime Broadway legend and Oscar winner is known for his role in Cabaret on stage and in the 1972 film adaptation. Gray has also appeared in TV series such as Alias, Nurse Jackie And The old man.

    Jeff Goldblum plays the wizard in the two-part film adaptation, even though accepting the role required him to confront his childhood fear of witches. The actor and musician has starred in classic films such as Jurassic Park And Independence Day as well as shows like Portlandia, Will & Grace And Law and order: criminal intent.

    Dr. Dillamond: William Youmans and Peter Dinklage

    William Youmans played Dr. Dillamond, a talking goat professor who befriends Elphaba, in the original Broadway cast. He told it Poster in 2023, although he had played supporting roles in Big river And Titanic, Bad was his first “leading role in the original cast of a Broadway show.”

    Michelle Federer played Nessarose, Elphaba’s younger sister who uses a wheelchair due to a physical disability she has had since birth, in the original Broadway show. In addition to her stage work, she can also be seen in TV series such as Crush, Elementary And New Amsterdam. In real life, the actress is married to her Bad costar Butz.

    Marissa Bode makes her film debut as Nessarose in Bad – and according to Todayshe is the first actor to play the role in real life who uses a wheelchair. Prior to the film, she appeared in a few local productions in Los Angeles and a short film titled No roles written.

    Carole Shelley played Madame Morrible in the original Bad production. The Tony-winning actress is best known for her performance both on stage and in the TV series adaptation of Neil Simon’s The odd couple. According to her, she died of cancer in 2018 The New York Times.
