Seven Washoe County schools are among Nevada’s top 25 high schools

Seven high schools in the Washoe County School District (WCSD) are among the top 25 public high schools in Nevada, according to the U.S. News & World Report 2024 annual rankings. The report evaluated nearly 18,000 public high schools in the United States.

The top-ranked WCSD schools are as follows:

  • Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology (AACT) at #3
  • Galena High School at #8
  • Reno High School at #12
  • TMCC High School at #13
  • Incline High School at number 14
  • Damonte Ranch High School at #24
  • McQueen High School at #25

“This study ranks schools based on their performance on state assessments and how well we prepare students for college,” said WCSD Superintendent Joe Ernst. “I applaud the efforts of our staff, students and families who provide the support and resources our students need to succeed, and I think we should all be proud of the survey results. We have more work to do , and we look forward to continued improvement in academic outcomes in our district.”

Schools were ranked based on six factors: college readiness, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, student achievement disadvantage, breadth of the university curriculum and graduation rate. These factors take into account several metrics, including AP and IB exam scores, state assessment scores, and graduation rates.
