Snow is coming, stay in the Denver area

Snow will move into Denver on Monday morning and this time, several inches of snow could accumulate in the city, according to the National Weather Service.

Up to 6 inches of snow could fall in Denver and the surrounding metro area overnight and Monday morning, according to NWS forecasters.

“Get ready for a change in winter weather Sunday night into Monday,” NWS forecasters said. “It could be a tough drive on Monday morning in and around the Denver metro area.”

According to NWS forecasters, a winter weather advisory will be in effect for the Foothills, Front Range and Palmer Divide from 8 p.m. Sunday through 11 a.m. Monday.

Drivers should allow extra time for their commutes and make sure they are prepared to drive in winter weather, as travel conditions could change from bad to dangerous, forecasters said.

Central Denver could see between 1/2 inch and 4 inches of snow pile up Monday morning, with rain turning to snow overnight, according to NWS forecasters.

Forecasters say Arvada, Aurora, Centennial and Lakewood are also expected to see up to 4 inches of snow, and Parker and Highlands Ranch could see up to 6 inches of snow.

Rain expected to start in Denver around 5 p.m. will turn to snow around 2 a.m. Monday as temperatures dip below freezing, NWS forecasters said.

Winter weather returns to the Denver area Tuesday evening and could last through the weekend, according to forecasters.

“While there is still uncertainty about the path of this storm and temperatures, the system appears to be bringing significant moisture to the area,” NWS forecasters said.

The second storm is expected to intensify Wednesday night and peak in intensity Thursday and Friday, according to forecasters.

“The most likely outcome is a widespread light snow event, with approximately a 20 percent chance of turning into a snowstorm with heavy snow and major impacts,” NWS forecasters said in a Hazardous Weather Alert.
