But that was just the beginning of the madness.

As the Steelers rolled into Cleveland, they couldn’t get into the end zone in the first half. Their first drive ended with a missed field goal. The second with a turnover on downs.

While they came up with a field goal from Chris Boswell early in the second quarter, there was also a strip sack from Myles Garrett, and another sack from the Browns star to end the half.

Garrett had three sacks in the first half and showed fire after calling out Pittsburgh edge rusher TJ Watt for disrespecting Garrett’s NFL Defensive Player of the Year win in February. Garrett delivered after some harsh words (including saying he would like an apology from Watt) prior to the Browns’ only practice of the week.

And then, after all that, with the Browns leading 10-3 at the break, the snow came.

The flakes piled up quickly.

Whether you were at Huntington Bank Field or watching the broadcast, it was virtually devoid of snow and difficult to see what was actually happening on the field.

About halfway through the third quarter, the Brownie logo at center field was no longer visible under a blanket of snow, and the grounds crew worked with shovels to clear the snow from the yard lines during lulls in the game action.

Both offenses struggled in conditions that can only be described as AFC North football weather, but the Steelers did manage to get another Boswell field goal before the fourth to get within 10-6.

The Browns appeared to be pulling away early in the fourth, when Jameis Winston somersaulted into the end zone and then found David Njoku for a two-point conversion to take an 18–6 lead with 12:16 to play.

However, during the TD run, Winston broke his helmet. The battery device that made communication possible was hanging around after its dive into the grass. According to the broadcast, it still stayed connected, so he never lost communication.

But Pittsburgh eventually responded with a three-yard touchdown run by Jaylen Warren. On the next Browns drive, the Steelers came up with a strip sack courtesy of Nick Herbig, got the ball back at the Cleveland 27 and needed just three plays to score again, with Russell Wilson finding Calvin Austin III for a 23-yard touchdown that gave the Steelers a 19-18 lead with 6:15 to play. .

The Steelers capped off the next Cleveland drive when Donte Jackson picked off Winston, but then it was four-and-out to set up the final Cleveland scoring drive that ended with a 2-yard touchdown run by Nick Chubb. For the score, Cleveland had to save itself from fourth-and-3 and third-and-6. Winston managed to find Jerry Jeudy for completion of both plays.

The Browns, leading 24-19, came up with the final defensive stop they needed, with Denzel Ward and Grant Delpit knocking down a Wilson Hail Mary effort as time expired.

From start to finish, almost nothing was right.

And in a season full of lows, you couldn’t have lifted the Browns and their fans any higher Thursday night.
