Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama and Chris Paul point to a high-risk, high-reward player bet

Last season, the San Antonio Spurs had some issues when it came to getting Victor Wembanyama the ball.

The then-rookie is 6-foot-4 and can get above the rim with the best of them, but the Spurs didn’t pair Wembanyama with a point guard for much of the season.

To rectify that, the Silver and Black signed Chris Paul to a one-year deal this summer. One of the greatest point guards of all time, Paul has spent his career throwing alley-oops at DeAndre Jordan, Tyson Chandler, Blake Griffin, Deandre Ayton and Clint Capela.

Wembanyama is the most tantalizing lob threat Paul has ever faced, and the duo linked up for the first of many preseason alleys.

After that Oct. 9 match, Wembanyama sang Paul’s praises as a passer.

โ€œIf there’s one guy in this league who can throw them, it’s probably him,โ€ the French center said.

With all that in mind, fans can take their chances at the sportsbooks and try to make some money on the high-flying duo.

FanDuel is offering +1700 odds that the first basket of the Spurs’ opener on Thursday night will be a Wembanyama dunk. With Spurs all but guaranteed to win the opening tip-off, Wembanyama and Paul may want to send a message.

โ€œWe want to perform,โ€ Wembanyama said on October 21. โ€œFirst minute, first play of the match.โ€

If the specific nature of the first basket makes the odds too high, FanDuel offers +390 odds of the game’s first basket being scored by Wembanyama.

Even if the game doesn’t start, fans should tune in to see what kind of above-the-rim acrobatics Wembanyama unleashes on both ends of the floor to start his second season.
