Stefon Diggs faces an uncertain future

After the Bills traded receiver Stefon Diggs to the Texans, the Texans converted his contract to a one-year deal, paying him $22.25 million in 2024.

Now, less than five months until early 2025, Diggs will begin rehabbing a torn ACL.

It complicates the future for a player who turns 31 next month. He will not receive a multi-year contract with significant guarantees. He will need to sign a one-year deal in the hopes that he can prove himself at a high enough level to perhaps get a better deal in 2026.

Since it typically takes more than one season to get back to 100 percent, it won’t be easy for Diggs to get anything close to market value. At some point he may have to decide if there’s a basement song he just doesn’t want to play under.

These are decisions that may or may not have to be made later. For now, all Diggs can do is rehab and recover and wait for the right situation in 2025. Ultimately, his best play might be to wait for the contenders to emerge next season and pick one for a long run that might include a Super Bowl. appearance – and possibly a ring.
