NEW YORK CITY – Two separate storm systems with heavy rain are expected to impact busy Thanksgiving holiday travel in New York City, and the second could even bring some snow to parts of the Tri-State area.

“The rain is likely to continue until tomorrow morning, but quick showers will pass on Tuesday morning.” FOX 5 NYs said Mike Woods.

NYC Weather: Mostly rain on Tuesday

Periods of heavy rain are expected in the Big Apple on Tuesday, especially before 4 p.m. The chance of precipitation is 90%, according to the National Weather Service.

No significant travel disruptions are expected from this low-impact storm as the FOX Prediction Center expect winter weather to remain limited near the Canadian border and in the Great Lakes region.

Thanksgiving weather: Winter storm for some?

MMeanwhile, a last-minute storm on Thanksgiving Day is expected to cause travel issues that will likely last through Black Friday and the start of the weekend.

An area of ​​low pressure is expected to move northeast on Thanksgiving. The most impactful weather is expected to occur north of the system, where air will be cold enough for snow to break out. The FOX Prediction Center expect snow to concentrate in parts of the Interior Northeast.

Decent snowfall rates are possible in parts of New York State, and travel along the Interstate 81 and 90 corridors could be significantly affected during Thanksgiving. The snow there could last until Black Friday before eventually leaving the region.

Closer to the storm’s center, however, heavy rain is likely, impacting millions of travelers in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast. The rain will also be accompanied by strong winds.

“It looks like Thanksgiving is going to be pretty cool and wet,” Woods said in a post on X, formally Twitter.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a 70% chance of precipitation, but it should mostly continue to rain.

“There is a rain, snow and ice component, but it is more in the north and west.” said Bos.
