Taylor Swift Brings 400,000 People to Voter Registration Site in Less Than 24 Hours

Taylor Swift’s Instagram call to register voters drew more than 400,000 visitors to the vote.gov website in less than 24 hours.

The 34-year-old pop star posted a custom URL to her Instagram Stories shortly after endorsing Kamala Harris in the upcoming November presidential election.

In a statement to Variety The General Services Administration, which operates the vote.gov website, said it received 405,999 visitors who were referred directly from the link the singer posted.

The week before, the site averaged about 30,000 visitors per day.

It is not known how many of those visitors subsequently registered to vote. However, the General Services Administration estimates that there were more than 27,000 new registrations through the website on September 11, and that more than 80,000 people verified their registration status.

Users cannot register on vote.gov, but residents are directed to their state election websites, where they must register directly with their state.

In her endorsement of Harris, Swift said the vice president is a “steadfast, gifted leader.”

In a lengthy message posted shortly after the Harris-Trump presidential debate, Swift said, “If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do some research on the issues at stake and the positions these candidates are taking on the topics that matter most to you.

She shares a photo of herself holding her cat Benjamin Button, from last year Time When the publication named her Person of the Year, she wrote: “Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight.

“As a voter, I make sure I read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country.”

The singer was referring to AI-generated images Trump reportedly shared on his Truth Social platform, which previously suggested she was endorsing him for president, and spoke about the “dangers of spreading misinformation.”

“It really raised my fears around AI and the dangers of spreading disinformation.

“It made me realize that I need to be very transparent about my real plans for this election as a voter. The easiest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”

She added: “I will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election.”

Swift also used her acceptance speech for Video of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards to urge viewers to register to vote.
