Tennessee football scores record 37 points in first quarter against Kent State

Tennessee Football set a program record for points in a quarter against Kent State on Saturday.

The Vols scored 37 points, breaking the previous record of 35 points in a quarter. UT scored 35 against Arkansas on Nov. 11, 2000 at Neyland Stadium. That was also in the first quarter.

UT scored five touchdowns in the first quarter. Running back Dylan Sampson had three rushing touchdowns. The Vols recorded a safety, which accounted for the two points that made the difference.

Sampson scored the first touchdown on a 22-yard run at the 11:32 mark of the first quarter. The Vols registered the safety at the 10:35 mark when a Kent State snap flew over the quarterback’s head. Sampson scored a 1-yard touchdown on the ensuing possession at the 8:11 mark.

Quarterback Nico Iamaleava hit Chris Brazzell II for a 53-yard touchdown with 5:56 left in the quarter. Running back DeSean Bishop scored on a 53-yard run at the 3:35 mark, and Sampson set the record with a 1-yard rush with two seconds left in the first quarter.

With his three touchdowns in the first quarter, Sampson has eight for the season.
