America’s Wall of Honor is a traveling exhibit honoring active and former military and first responders, living and fallen. The exhibit is on display this year during Husker Harvest Days, which began Tuesday and runs through Thursday.

The 17.5 by 3-meter Memorial Wall features nine seals, forged from layers of stainless steel.

The centerpiece is the presidential seal, flanked by emblems of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and National Guard, along with the insignia of America’s first responders.

Timothy Lampros, an Air Force veteran and first responder, is the artist behind America’s Wall of Honor. Lampros started out as a firefighter-paramedic in DeKalb, Illinois, but later transferred to the Air Force, where he specialized in shuttle rescue missions.

He was also involved in the film industry, where he supervised safety on film sets, where Lampros discovered his passion for working with metal and lighting techniques.

“I don’t consider myself an artist, but I like working with metal,” he said.

The origins of America’s Wall of Honor lie in Lampros’ earlier project for the Los Angeles Police Department, where his creation of the “End of Watch” memorial wall received much acclaim.

This success prompted him to conceptualize a larger tribute, resulting in America’s Wall of Honor. In an effort to revive patriotism, especially among the youth, Lampros embarked on a tour of the United States with his creation.

The exhibit, called Patriot Thunder, features the presidential seal alongside images from all branches of the military, including the Coast Guard, National Guard and first responders.

Lampros stressed the importance of honoring those who serve and protect, from the military to local law enforcement agencies.

“We are blessed to be in this country and we must not forget the sacrifices we have made to protect our freedom,” he said.

Lampros wants his work to instill a deep sense of national pride in people.

“When you stand in front of the American Wall of Honor, you will never forget it,” he said.

The interactive exhibit serves as a poignant reminder, especially on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on this country, of the collective efforts to maintain the country’s security and prosperity.

Lampros wants visitors who leave the exhibition to leave with a new appreciation for the “unsung heroes who dedicate their lives to protecting the well-being of the nation.”

The mission of America’s Wall of Honor is to fulfill President Lincoln’s promise: “To care for him who bore the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan.” Lampros said the project’s goals include uniting Americans by honoring those who “serve and protect our nation and our communities.”

The seals are made of hundreds of pieces of stainless steel, powder coated and mounted on acrylic glass with LED lighting.

Completion of the Presidential Seal features 607 stainless steel pieces, with the Eagle alone consisting of over 200 pieces. It weighs over 500 pounds. Four Seals on each side of the Presidential Seal are equally detailed, made of stainless steel, glass, and LED lighting.

The 10-foot-tall, 60-foot-long structure, which weighs 20,000 pounds, took Lampros four years to complete. Construction on America’s Wall of Honor began in late 2016. It will be unveiled in Omaha in 2023.
