GEARY, Okla. – In a sudden upheaval, the entire police department and two city council members in Geary resigned on the same day. KOCO reported.

The police chief and the entire force handed in their badges on October 31 and announced their departure on social media. Former Chief Alicia Ford expressed gratitude for the city’s support and urged residents to participate more actively in local government. No specific reasons for the dismissal were given.

“It is with great sadness that I and the rest of the Geary police officers will no longer serve this community,” Ford said. “This choice was very difficult to make, but it was the right decision for me and the other officers.”

The former chief disclosed that the interim police commissioner was hired by the city council to conduct an audit of the police station, the report said.

The uproar extended to the City Council, where members Rocky Coleman and Kristy Miller also resigned. In his resignation letter, Coleman cited differences in values with the city’s direction and condemned what he saw as the influence of personal agendas on public services, the report said.

Residents expressed great concern about the situation.

“We don’t have much of a city anymore,” one resident told KOCO, while another urged city leadership to quickly address the underlying problems.

The Blaine and Canadian County sheriff’s offices are assisting with public safety in the meantime, according to the report. The city has not clarified the cause of the resignations, but has assured residents that an interim police chief is in place to lead the department during the transition.
