The desk manager of the hotel where singer Liam Payne was staying in Argentina begged authorities to “send someone with urgency” in a frantic call with emergency services before his death, according to a recording of the phone call obtained by ABC News.

“We need to send someone urgently because I don’t know if the guest’s life is in danger, because he is in a room with a balcony, and we are afraid that he might do something that threatens his life,” the employee said to the emergency services on Wednesday evening. .

Payne’s body was found in the hotel courtyard, where he was pronounced dead at the scene, Alberto Crescenti, the director of SAME, Buenos Aires Emergency Medical Services, told ABC News.

“We have a guest who is intoxicated on drugs and alcohol,” the hotel manager said during the phone call. “If he’s conscious, he’ll destroy everything in the room.”

“You said alcohol and drugs?” the emergency services operator responded.

“That’s right,” said the hotel manager.

Authorities in Buenos Aires have not confirmed any evidence of drug use at the time of Payne’s death.

The 31-year-old singer shared a YouTube video in 2023 in which he revealed he was six months sober after spending nearly 100 days in a Louisiana rehab facility.

Payne was staying at the CasaSur hotel in Palermo, Buenos Aires, when he fell approximately 45 to 45 feet from a hotel balcony, according to police.

Emergency services arrived on the scene at 5.11pm local time, seven minutes after receiving the emergency services call, but said there was no way to save the man – whose identity was only discovered after he was confirmed dead – due to of injuries that were “very serious” and “incompatible with life,” authorities said.

Payne joined One Direction upon the group’s formation in 2010 after appearing on the show ‘X Factor’. The group also included Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson.

The band announced its hiatus in 2015 and Payne began a solo career, releasing the song “Strip That Down” in 2017 and the album “LP1” in 2019.

At 29, Payne said he had “a better grip on life” as he took time for himself after becoming “someone I didn’t really recognize anymore.”

The singer said he was able to channel his energy to be a better father to his son Bear, whom he shares with singer Cheryl Cole.
