Thursday’s win made Sean Payton the eighth head coach to defeat all 32 NFL teams

Thursday night’s game marked the first time Sean Payton has ever been the head coach of a team that played the Saints and guided the Broncos to a victory, putting Payton in rare company.

Payton is the eighth head coach to record a win against all 32 teams in the league. Bill Belichick, Tony Dungy, John Fox, Mike Holmgren, Bill Parcells, Andy Reid and Mike Shanahan are the others doing it and Payton was asked during his post-game press conference what it meant to join that group.

“It means you’ve had two jobs,” Payton said at his news conference. “Someone brought up that statistic and we tried to guess who was on that list. Foxy is one of them. Someone brought it up yesterday or the day before. We don’t think about things like that, but I know that you have to have worked at two different organizations for that. I’m happy to be here.”

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy has wins against 31 teams, but hasn’t been able to lead his current team to wins in two games against the Packers. They are not scheduled to meet in the regular season, so they will have to meet in the playoffs for the coaching association to grow this year.
