Tickets for the 2025 Ryder Cup sold out due to fan backlash over prices

While some may find it hard to believe, Ryder Cup tickets are in high demand, and some golf fans are willing to pay regardless of the price tag to attend the biennial event. The fact that tickets for next year’s event at Bethpage in New York are already sold out proves that point.

The PGA of America, which organizes the Ryder Cup on American soil, has faced criticism from golf fans over the list price of tickets. Tickets for practice on Tuesday and Wednesday cost $255 each, tickets for Thursday’s practice rounds, including the opening ceremony, cost $423, while a ticket for the real action on Friday, Saturday or Sunday costs $750. All these charges are final, with no additional taxes or fees at checkout.

Those are undoubtedly high prices, especially when you compare them to the most expensive matchday ticket at the 2023 Ryder Cup in Italy, which cost $277, and the 2021 Ryder Cup in Wisconsin, which was in a similar price range.

The PGA of America defended ticket prices for 2025 amid fan backlash, and it’s clear this was justified as tickets for Friday, Saturday and Sunday are already sold out, with a limited number remaining for practice round tickets.

When it opened just a few weeks ago, more than 500,000 people participated in the random lottery selection process. Orders were fulfilled from all over the United States and 47 different countries, and more than 2,500 tickets were sent to Europe, resulting in a very fast sell-out.

The Ryder Cup is a Level 1 event, similar to Game 7 of the World Series, a Wimbledon final or the Masters. All these events have two things: extreme demand and extremely high ticket prices.

It also cannot be emphasized enough that things are extremely expensive in and around New York City. Bethpage Black is located approximately 30 miles from downtown Manhattan, and because it is only a short train or car ride away from perhaps the largest and certainly one of the most expensive cities in the world, this is one of the most expensive tickets on the calendar of 2025.

The Ryder Cup, especially one held close to Manhattan, is not for everyone, just like attending a Super Bowl is not for everyone.
