SIOUX FALLS, SD (Dakota News Now) — There is one Slight risk for possible severe weather later today in parts of eastern South Dakota, western Minnesota and northern Iowa. That is a Level 2 out of 5. Thunderstorms that develop later today could bring stronger wind gusts and possibly large hail. Once the sun sets and the storms move east tonight, the chance for severe weather will decrease rapidly.

Aside from the chance of severe storms today, we will once again experience warm and windy conditions. Wind gusts will remain around 30 to 35 mph this afternoon. Highs will range from the low 80s in the east to the high 80s in the west. As mentioned, the chance for thunderstorms increases this afternoon into this evening.

Once these storms dissipate tonight, Thursday and much of Friday will be dry and mild. We expect more chances for rain over the weekend as temperatures begin to cool. Fall officially begins on Sunday and highs will only be in the low 70s with some high 60s. We have more chances for showers and storms early next week before we are dry by mid to late next week along with temperatures remaining in the low 70s.
